My apologies for the extended plogging (picture blogging) absence. The photos always take a long time to upload and I rarely sit in front of the computer for long periods of time.
All is well here! I am continuing to enjoy my work with the children in speech therapy. Now that their school year is over, we have been able to do more small group therapy sessions, where we get to focus more on social skills and peer communication. The kids are just so much fun to work with. I love to hear "Me toca? Me toca?" everytime I walk into the baby house, as everyone wants it to be their turn for speech therapy. :)
With the special education team, we have been interviewing all of the children in special ed in hopes of learning about what their individual hopes and dreams are for themselves. It has been so great to get some goals written and set plans in motion to have them be as self-reliant as possible.
In other news, I have been given permission to be a driver for us volunteers. Today, I got to drive the home's microbus to Chimaltenango. Definitely thankful that my dad insisted that us kids learn how to drive stick shift. Though it was an adjustment for me having to look out for
tuc-tucs, motos, and the numerous potholes, it was pretty noneventful. To learn the roads better, I'll take a couple more trips with one of the home's official drivers in the passenger seat before I'll go out on my own. I definitely don't plan to drive any of the kids, but it will be nice to be able to drive some of the volunteers if some of us need to go into one of the towns for various projects.
Here is a look at what has been happening here in Guatemala over the past month! :)
